Information for Parents

SEND

A child or young person has a Special Educational Need if they have significantly greater difficulty in learning than the majority of others of the same age, or has a disability which prevents or hinders him or her from making use of facilities of a kind generally provided for others of the same age.

There are 4 broad areas of need:

– Communication and Interaction (CI) – Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech, Language and Communication Needs (SLCN)

– Cognition and Learning (COG/L) – Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD) such as: Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Dyscalculia.

– Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) – Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD), Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)

– Sensory &/or Physical Needs (S/P) – Hearing Impaired (HI), Visually Impaired (VI), Physical Disability (PD)
